Five Tanks, 500,000 Litres, and Nothing Left to Fit in the Dig.
Factory-fitted ATLAS Mono chambers on double-skinned underground tanks (Wefco Gainsborough, UK)
The challenge
Wefco (Gainsborough) Limited had five 100,000 litre double-skinned tanks to deliver to a live construction site, and the chamber design came with several non-standard requests. Fitted on site, that kind of detail means measuring, cutting and sealing in the excavation, where mistakes are hardest to spot and slowest to fix.
The solution
Berrys built the non-standard features into the ATLAS Mono chambers exactly as specified, then fitted them to the tanks at the factory, together with the internal pipework and chamber boot seals. Each tank left the yard as one finished unit.
The Mono chamber is steel, welded directly to the tank, with predefined pipe entries and Nitrile boot seals. Its Endoprene coating is specified for the same 30-year life as the tank.
On site
Wefco planned the delivery in detail, and SG Haulage brought the abnormal loads through tight town-centre streets under escort. Once there, the installers had a much shorter to-do list:
• No nuts and bolts to fix the chambers
• No measuring tape or holesaws for the entry boots
• No jointing compound or pipe tools for the lid fittings
With the tanks in the ground, they were ready for pipework straight away.
The result
Half a million litres of storage arrived as five complete units, with the chamber work already done. Less time in the dig, fewer things to get wrong and a faster route to a finished site.
“Once again the tanks are supplied with Berrys mono chambers, internal pipework, chamber boot seals all pre-fitted. Great work as always from everyone involved.”
